What is this round?

Does anyone know what this round is? I found it just outside an army ranger training area about 6 years ago. Still have not found anything like it. I'm guessing it is a custom round, but still never seen anything close. The only thing I can make out on the rear of the casing is " L 5 7" and I can not identify the other symbol.

Looks to be a 30.06 blank or 7.62 blank. I'm not good with meter conversion stuff.

Enjoy,

Hard to see. I take it that there is no bullet in the cartridge? Might it be a blank round used to propel a rifle grenande or something else?

Never thought of a blank... That makes sense being where I found it.

It is a blank round for M14 and M60. The 30-06 blanks do not have the nose on the end.

...a wildcat of some kind that was necked down from a standard rifle case; right?

I think wildcats were more popular decades ago....I have not seen any in magazines or other places for many years...

Pretty standard 7.62 Nato blank. The headstamp should read L C 7 5, from Lake City Arsenal.
