.454 Companion Lever Companion Gun

OK, this is at the point of silly day-dreaming now, and at the risk of looking a fool, I'll put my day-dreaming on the forums for you to shred. As per Venom1956's request, here's the deal:

OK, I have this idea for a bear/back-packing/hunting revolver: a .454 Super Redhawk cut for .45 ACP/moon-clips and ported ('cuz I'm a portin' fool). I don't own this gun yet, but have been thinking about it, and lusting for a long time.

However, I think it would be super-awesome to have a companion gun that'd use the same ammunition. I could suffer not having it in a cheap caliber (it'd be the one gun I own that's not), since it's a lever gun, and I have plenty of other guns to shoot. It would just be BA to have a .454 Casull lever gun.

However, after searching around lever gun producers, sadly Marlin and Henry don't produce levers in .454. Only Rossi does. So my questions are:

1.) Does Rossi blow, should I stay away at all costs? My guts tell me, "Yes."
2.) Does anybody other than Rossi do a .454 lever gun?
3.) If nobody does a .454 lever gun, who would do the custom work for such a gun? Is it possible?

I have seen several people at the range with Rossi lever guns. All of them shot just fine. None had any issues that I saw. I will be in the market for one in .357 Mag when finances permit, as to the fact that I bought an 1895 Marlin in .45-70 Govt last week.

I'd probably be saving for one if I could hunt with it in Ohio.

The company is fairly new, so I am not sure it works. Most new designs don't.

By the time I save the money and get the law in Ohio changed it should be working though.

what kind of velocity does 454 Casull and 500 SW achieve out of a 20 inch barrel?

btmj, given what I watched a friend do with his Raging Bull, I'd have to say, "More than enough."

The 500 magnum in a rifle... wow. If the 400 grain load gains 300 fps from the long barrel, it will have energy levels about equal to a 35 whelan... it is bumbping up against the 338 win mag. That is a lot of cartridge in a light weight lever gun.

The 357 magnum gains about 300 fps going from a 6 inch revolver to a 20 inch rifle...

I know a guy who shoots magnum guns A LOT. He just shoots a lot in general. He owns one of every magnum pistol you know of.

He has Encore barrels to go with them. Last year he dislocated his shoulder shooting his 500 mag carbine. Shot it like 20 times in one sitting. No joke.

I will pass.

I bought a 460 Encore barrel, but I pretty much accepted I would be shooting 454 loads when I made the purchase.

I don't mind throwing down some hard-earned money for an awesome gun, but it would have to run nigh 100% (I'll accept below 100% because nothing does). And like you mentioned, I'd be worried about it functioning. Of course, every manufacturer will claim that they make reliable guns.

But that being said: AWESOME. Let me know, anybody, ever, if they get a chance to either meet someone who owns one or shoot/own one.

Would the .454 push .45 LC or would that be too much to ask?
