4", 5", 6" "N Frames"

I don't why these things keep following me home.

Model 28 Highway Patrolman 1978

357 Magnum (pre 27) 1954

Model 28 Highway Patrolman 1967

I guess I'm just a sucker for such things.

You obviously have a kind face and a wheel gunner's hands.

Enjoy!

I have 4" and 6" model 28s.

I have a 6.5" 24-3 (.44 Special)

I have a 4" Model 58 (.41 Magnum)

I have a Brazilian contract 1917 in .45 ACP.

And my most recent was a 4" Model 25-5 in .45 Long Colt.

It looks like they tend to follow me home, too.

Who, me?

That barrel length will remain missing from my collection. I prefer 4" tubes myself.

Me? No thanks. Anything longer than 6", or shorter than 4", looks unbalanced to me. Even 6" is a bit long for my taste.

Maybe a 3.5 on the short side if I ever run into one.

They follow you home because you appreciate the old blued N-frame revolvers and you have the cash. Back when Bass Pro offered a 5" 686, I was so tempted to buy one. Seemed like the perfect barrel length for general shooting. I later went back and of course the sale was over and they no longer had that barrel length.

I really like my 8 3/8" Model 57. They just don't make them like that any more.

That would be my wife if I didn't keep an eye on her.

@ Mike and Cajun...

Sorry you've got to have at least one 8" tube for your N frame collection. How do you watch the Dirty Harry movies without one? LOL!

I agree that the four inch is the bee's knees though!

I've never seen Dirty Harry carry an 8 3/8" barreled revolver. 6" yes.

All of my N Frames are 6" or 6.5". I reckin' I need to adopt a 4" one of these days. I had a 3" 657, but traded it.

I have 5" and 6.5" N frames. I'd love a 4", but we'll see if that happens. I don't see me getting into the 88" ones... those just never look right to me (but then, I would like a nice long barreled X frame...).

I never said he did. I said it was required to watch Dirty Harry movies. I'm sorry my attempt at humor didn't translate well on the internet.

If you haven't shot an 8 3/8" N frame, don't knock it till you have tried it. I bought this one to keep my 8 3/8" K-22s company. It is a blast to shoot, especially when sending rounds waaaayyy down range.

No nickel, either. Or stainless steel.

"If you haven't shot an 8 3/8" N frame, don't knock it till you have tried it."

I have. That's why I'm knocking it.

"I said it was required to watch Dirty Harry movies."

Ah. OK, gotcha.

Supposedly, the longer barrel was used some -- maybe to enhance the size of the gun on some weird angle shots?
"Unlike the gun in the script, the only barrels acquired for the guns in this film were the 8 3/8" barrel and the 6 1/2" barrel. Both can be seen used in some scenes." http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Dirty_Harr...esson_Model_29

BTW, I plan on getting a Model 27 with 8 3/8 inch barrel. That will give me the 27 in 4, 6, and 8 3/8 to go along with my Pythons in 4, 6, and 8 inches.

A 4" N-frame makes you wish for open carry.

Until last November I've never owned anything in the .38 caliber genre, being more inclined to the bigger bores. But in the past 6 months three S&W .357 Mags, a S&W .38 S&W/.38 Spcl conversion and an Israeli Bul 9mm seem to have followed me home. I have no specific recollection but there they are in the gun safe and there's a big box of spent casing on the floor.......
