Smith & Wesson® Withdraws from Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show

"
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 22, 2013) --- Smith & Wesson, a U.S. based leader in firearm manufacturing and design, today announced that the Company will not attend nor will it support or participate in the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The announcement comes after the decision of show management company, Reed Exhibitions, to prohibit the display of modern sporting rifles in this year’s event.

James Debney, President and CEO of Smith & Wesson, said, “As a market leader in the firearm industry and an iconic brand that spans 160 years of American history, we believe it is important to make our position perfectly clear: We support the Second Amendment and the rights of our law-abiding customers to purchase these and all legal firearms. Therefore, we are unable to support any organization or event that prohibits legal firearms, or otherwise restricts a citizen's lawful and constitutional rights"

Good on em. (S&W.)

Good deal. I've a group of Smiths in the meatlocker. I still want more. Easier to side with them as opposed to that other position they took. That's a stand up management team, now.

Good. Maybe others will follow suit and the management of Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show will not have much of a show for being biased against the anti AR style sporting rifle.

So far there are around 110 businesses and celebrities that are taking a stand. No word yet if the NRA is following suit....they are listed as having two booths. Maybe their phone lines need to be lit up.....

I hope the gun show learns their lesson and doesn't jump the gravy train of fear mongering again

SWHC stocks took a digger today after the announcement of another shooting in Texas. If you have a 401K that allows you to buy stocks, hitting back with $ helps too.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's name can be added to the list of exhibitors that have withdrawn from the PA show! They sent out a press release this afternoon and politely withdrew their name from being an exhibitor and sponsor! Look for more of same to continue!

Nice to see the huge change in S&W since they were bought again by an American owner. I didn't see a lot of other AR15 manufacturers on that no-show list: where is Remington/DPMS/Bushmaster? Do Colt, FN, Ruger and such normally have booths?

Not many optics companies on the list either, just Trijicon as far as I can see.

Let us never again make fun of our FUDD brothers because a lot of non-tactical companies are on this no-show list in support of that segment of the industry. Lots of bow companies, clothing, RMEF, etc.

Does anyone know if there has been a response from the company that organizes, and runs the show?

Note: This list was updated at 10:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

As of Tuesday, more than 140 companies and celebrities have announced their plans as to pull out of the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show being held at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg Feb. 2 through 10.

The boycotts are a result of the announcement by show organizer Reed Exhibitions that so-called assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines will not be allowed to be displayed or sold at the show this year.

I am a little more proud to own some S&W products. I will continue to show my support with my wallet. Pass the news along, S&W deserves the publicity and our support. I also emailed them.

Looks like I'll have to pick up that S&W M&P9 that the wife has been eyeballing sooner than later. Glad to hear that all those companies listed have shown solidarity as they should on this issue.
