Can someone identify these two black powder pistols?

I have these two pistols a friend gave me to put up for auction or try to sale online. He does not have paper work for them and don't know the make or model.

The long barrel pistol Has 74 of 1000 engraved on one side and "SM Black Powder Only Cal .44 Made In Italy."

The short barrel pistol has 190 of 1000 and "SM Black Powder Only Cal .44 Made In Italy."

Does anyone know anything about these pistols? Their worth? and also a good place to put them up for Auction Online?

If you go to the web site armi san marco you will find info on both pistols, both are replica pistol made in Italy of old west hand guns. Hope this helps

I will look a little deeper, the web site should be good I was on it before my reply, a good gun shop will also be able to help with ID and price. Auction I can't help with, a gun show may buy one or both just go to one that knows Black powder.

Howdy

They are replicas of the Remington 44 caliber Army revolver, commonly called the Model 1858, although wide scale production did not start until 1861.

This link should help you identify the maker. It lists the trademarks of most of the Italian replica makers. Don't forget to look under the loading lever, some makers hid their marks there.

They are indeed 1858 replicas, but not "New Model Army" those had an 8" barrel, like this:

The long barreled (10") versions were reproduced as "buffalo" models. Try checking out Uberti & Pietta's websites as they are very likely candidates for making a silver-colored, engraved, buffalo version. ASM (Armi San Marco) is another likely maker.

They're replicas of the Rem Model 1858. Both are very dressed up as some sort of commemorative firearm. You may be able to find them listed in the Blue Book of Gun Values.

ASM has been out of business for a number of years. Uberti doesn't make glitzy stuff. Pietta makes one with an 8 inch barrel, dunno about the 12 with the glitz. The gold wash won't last long if its fired and the frames under the chrome are brass.

Yes, you have already been told. The eight inch barreled gun is a replica of a standard Remingoton Model 1858, just gussied up.

The long barreled one is something that never existed, a long barreled 1858 Remington with target sights, also gussied up.

Try checking the guns for the trademarks on the link I sent you and that will tell you who made them.

The "SM" indicates the manufacturer was Armi San Marco. There will be no other manufacturer's marks. There should, however, be the two Italian proof house marks and a date code stamp - two letters enclosed in a square box. The date code is the year they were proofed, commonly considered the manufacturing date.

These are in pretty good condition, so they will probably fetch a decent price. They are for more of the "display" gun purpose than actual shooters, that plating , especially the gold, will flake off quickly with use. Try selling em on Gunbroker
