land navigation training aid

I put together an excell spreadsheet that allows you to enter grid coordinates and the GM angle and it calculates distance and azimuth to the points. The points have to be in the same 100,000 meter grid zone, but I was only planning on using it as a training aid locally for the classes we teach here. I may put some more time into it and tweak it so that it can be used for multible grid zones. Does anyone know if anything like this is available commercially or on a website somewhere? It would be coolto find out that this is a unique application.

I also made up a powerpoint presentation describing how to use it, but it's so easy you don't need it. I've tested it some, but if anyone wants to play with it and see if there are any bugs in it let me know and I'll give you a copy.

Sounds cool!

Does it use MGRS or Lat/Long?
Sounds like a cool tool-I'd love to check it out!

I set it up for use with military grids. I haven't worked with lat and long very much, and the little I did was a long time ago. I don't even know if it could be adapted to lat and long.

PM me your email address and I'll send it to you to play with.

I'd put it on a website for public use if there was a way to do it in the same way you do photos. It's not anything that you could really use in the field unless you carry a PDA out into the woods or something like that. I will be giving it to all the other instuctors next month though so it shoud make it easier to put together practical exercises for the map reading/land navigation classes as well as the call for fire and possibly TLP classes.

I'm still curious how this thread fits in this forum, but whatever. Quote:
