Selling a Handgun in Arizona

Hello

I have a Handgun that I want to sell and I have someone who is interested but he is 18 years old. Is it legal to sell to him even if he is not 21? This is a private sale not thru a dealer. If you could provide any information or where exactly to find out. I called my sheriff's department and they said they don't know and to contact a local gun shop. I called the local gun shop and they said they could not answer my question.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi. Your my only hope.

This may help.

13-3109. Sale or gift of firearm to minor; classification

A. Except as provided in subsection C of this section, a person who sells or gives to a minor, without written consent of the minor's parent or legal guardian, a firearm, ammunition or a toy pistol by which dangerous and explosive substances may be discharged is guilty of a class 6 felony.

NOT TRUE AT ALL

Federal law prohibits an FFL holder from selling a handgun or handgun ammo to someone under 21 (but at least 18). There is no such restriction on personal sales.

You'll have to look to AZ state law to see if there are any state restrictions. There is no federal restriction as long as you are not a FFL holder (I doubt you'd be asking the question if you were).

Doyle,

Yep, you're right on that. My error.

FFL to sell a handgun must be 21.

Private selling of handgun must be 18 or over.

21 to buy handguns retail and concealed carry.
18 to buy handguns private and open carry.
14 to transport and carry firearms for hunting, farming, or practice.
