Gen4 Glock 19 Review
The Glock 19 is probably the most popular gun in America and for good reason---it's reasonably priced, reliable, rugged, accurate, and simple to maintain. But in the last couple years its' reputation has taken a hit and some of that came from me. I had a Gen4 G19 (PYU###) serial number and it was terrible---malfunctions/brass to the face/erratic ejection/ect... Well Glock replaced that gun and that gun is what this review's about. Let's get into it... Pros: -Reliable. The gun has had 0 malfunctions -Accurate. It's more accurate than I am, that's for sure. -Durable -Easy to maintain -TONS of aftermarket support due to its' popularity and longevity. -Accepts 15, 17, and 33 round factory magazines -Glock's customer service is excellent -Durable finish -Cheap replacement parts, should you ever need them -Low Bore Axis resulting in a soft shooting gun, especially for the weight. -Easily modified to fit the shooters' preferences -Requires very little cleaning/lubrication to run reliably -"Medium-sized" frame works well for both duty use and concealed carry. -Improved grip texture on the Gen4 guns Cons: -Recent history of problems in the post 2010 models -Comes with a serrated trigger (even the US models) -Availability these days. Chrono numbers: Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p : 1232 FPS, 418 FT/LBS energy Federal HST 124gr : 1155 FPS, 367 FT/LBS energy Here's a video with some shooting from the 12m line, a size comparison, a demonstration of shooting it with some loads often blamed for the recent issues, and a chronograph test with some popular carry/defensive loads: Gen 4 Glock 19 HD Video Review Link

I guess the brass to the face doesn't happen with the big caliber Glocks, that's all I've owned and never had a problem.

"Brass to face" is a well documented problem for many Gen 4's. Seems that the extractor design was changed from the Gen 3's. My Gen 3 has a "throw too far" issue...it's constantly flinging the cases more than 10 feet...

This would also explain why Glock didn't recall them---too much money to replace all the slides; sending out extractors would have only cost them a couple bucks per gun---I'm pretty sure they would have done that to 'solve the issue.'

It seems post 2010 Gen3 guns(I have one) had the same ejector problems as the Gen4 guns had(I have one of those too.) Replaced the ejector in the Gen3 with the new design and most of the problems went away. Both guns give you one to the head once in a while but not very often. Something I can live with now.

Get a Gen 2 or Gen 3 (2 pin ) G19. No MIM. The best they made to date!

Does the Gen 4 G19 have the limp wristing issue that the Nickle-Boron coated ones seem to?

I have one of the first Gen4 G19's made (July 2010 test fire date). It came with all of the "bad" parts in it (0-3 spring, old ejector, etc.) yet it worked perfectly. Once the upgraded parts came out I put them in regardless just to have my pistol up to the latest specs..... and guess what? Erratic ejection and brass to the face! I promptly put the old parts back in and everything was fine again. Go figure.

I have a Glock 19 that I just picked up. Actually like it more than my 17. Not one issue with brass to the face. I ran 5 different kinds of ammo through it. When I first got into Semi autos, I never thought I'd like/appreciate Glocks so much. I now own 5. They are so reliable, easy to shoot for light weight guns, accurate, easy to work on, parts are easy to find. Just can't go wrong with the 19. Great all around gun for the money.
