Load for 44 mag

I am loading 44 Rem mag, 245 Gn SWC with Unique powder. all I seem to find data for is 240GN swc. I think a long time ago I used 10GN of Unique. YOu guys have any ideas. Thanks

It would depend on your bullet hardness. If you are shooting hard cast Alliant has info on the 250 grain cast Keith bullet that you could use. If you are shooting lead (swagged) then they have a recipe for 240 grain that would be appropriate. Either way do understand that you should reduce the given loads by 10% per Alliant and work up. Here's the page for Alliant's information.

Generally you can use information for a slightly heavier but similar bullet type in your research on starting loads and load development. Be certain to not use data for lighter bullets than what you are using unless it's very close, or in the case I gave you Alliant's data is pretty light and should be fine in a 44 mag.

I found a 245GN SWC bullet in my Lyman book, call for Unique 9.8gn to13.0gn. think I will go with 10gn. Thanks

Sweet! Be careful with anything over 10 grains, as Alliant had 11 grains max with the 250 Keith.

5 grains (2%) is a very small difference and the bullets may vary that much anyway. You should be fine with 240 grain loads, but if you are concerned I would back the max values off by .1 or .2 grains (and start at the min of course).
