I have been trying to decide on the lever action guns. Does the short 1895G qualify in Cowboy shooting? I'm inclined to buy the 1895C which come in 26 inch and no porting.M33

Howdy,

You could shoot an unported .45-70 in a Long Range side match, but Main match rifles must be a pistol caliber (.38 Special, .44-40, .45 Colt, for example).
