Why a S.W.A.T. Forum

We've opened this Forum for a number of reasons:
  • To provide news and updates on the magazine
  • To solicit comments and suggestions for S.W.A.T.
  • To provide guidance and feedback for prospective Authors
  • To elicit comments and experiences that may make it into the pages of S.W.A.T.

Think you have what it takes to write for S.W.A.T.? This is the place to come for guidance on topics, length, photos and the like....please do not submit full text articles here. S.W.A.T. magazine does not reprint previously published works.

Have an experience you'd like to share? These may be submitted in part or entirety on this Forum. We'll be opening a new section in the magazine, focusing on real life encounters. Your story might well make the cut. We're most interested in stories that provide a lesson. None of us always does everything right.....the real lessons are in the debrief.

Finally, we'll be lifting statements from this Forum for the Mail column in S.W.A.T.. These will be printed only with prior permission of the Author.

Rich,
Good luck with the new magazine (whatever it will be called!)
I'm looking forward to finally seeing a gun mag without the fluff and hype of the others ("The Ultimate whatever" , "Tactical whatever" and so forth).

Keep the faith, and the product will sell itself.

Thanks, Pat.
Harry Humphries sends regards and is real happy to see you in the magazine. He'll be starting a column in the February issue.

Hope to see more from you!
Rich

"We're most interested in stories that provide a lesson. "

Rich...

Can you provide a little more direction?

What sorts of experiences/encounters/resolutions are you seeking [or are those who will be making selections] that you think will be most interesting to the readership of the new Tac-Mag?

Is that my name suggestion, you ask? Why, yes...it is.

Zander,
OK, we'll let the cat out of the bag--but just a little.
In the next few months we'll be overhauling some existing columns in S.W.A.T. and adding a few new ones. One of the new columns will focus on true life occurances where a citizen being lawfully armed made a difference between life and potentially death. We'll want to know if the person had to shoot or not, or possibly the mere presence of a gun made would-be attackers seek easier prey. On the other hand, maybe just being aware of your surroundings possibly saved a life, such as passing by a cafe because persons in the parking lot just didn't look "right."

We want to know what tactics worked and what tactics failed. What would you do the same and what would be your "do-over." We want to share and pass along experiences that save lives. As Rich said, "the real lessons are in the debrief." And who better to debrief us than the person it happened to?

Thanks, Denny.

BTW, I was through your area a couple of years ago...you sure live in a beautiful place.

In fact, there seems to be a pretty heavy concentration of TFL'ers in that part of Arizona.

Perfectly understandable!

I have been a longtime reader of S.W.A.T. I still have the first issue. I have seen this publication grow and change over the years. I would like to say that the last two issues since its new ownership has seen some very good changes. Please keep up the good work.
