AR Scope?

I'm interested in a low power scope, say 1.5 or 2 power, for my Bushmaster. I do not want any kinda scope that relies on a battery. I'd settle for a 1X4 or 2X5 scope if it didn't need a battery. Anyone know of one? If it makes a difference, I intend on using one of the early type scope mounts that screws onto the carry handle. Cheaper Than Dirt Carries these mounts.

A Weaver V3 is a darn good little 1-3x20 that can be had for $150. Optically and mechanically it's on par with a Burris Fullfield II, Nikon Buckmaster, or Bushnell Legend. A step up is a Nikon M-223 1-4x20 for $280-300. The "M" series is derived their top notch Monarch line while the P-223 is derived from their entry level ProStaff line. I'd put Weaver's V3 right in between the two Nikons.

Most batteries last for years now. Are you sure you would rule out the Truglo Multi-Reticle in the 2X version? I've got to have one.

I have no used for any combat weapon that needs a battery. It's likely just me but that's the way I am. I've thought about a regular scope but they make so many with the 'rings' built in that I figured something might be out there.

Times and technology have changed. Something like an Aimpoint T1 is capable of running non-stop for 50,000 hours (over 5 years of continuous use). Or you can turn it off when not using it and make it last a decade. These are combat proven devices that don't just fail. Even the less expensive Aimpoint Pro is good for 30,000 hours (over 3 years of continuous use) and if you're paranoid then replace the battery once a year and keep a couple of name-brand spares around the house. What I would not trust my life to is a $100 red dot sight. $100 red dots are for killing coke cans and rabbits and do those jobs well.

I keep an Eotech on one flattop AR15 and a 1-4x24 illuminated scope on another and a non-illuminated Weaver V3 on one of my Mini-14s. If you buy a 1-3x or 1-4x with a true 1x low end (many are really 1.1-1.5x) then you have a fast as irons both eyes open weapon sight and you have magnification on tap for when you need it. A scope with an illuminated donut just draws the eye to the target. When the battery dies an illuminated scope just reverts to being a non-illuminated scope.

As a Peace Officer I was in 6 standup gunfights. For awhile, years ago, I was a Sniper. Never got a scratch, nice of you to ask though.

Combat is not just military engagements. Most any lethal force fight is considered combat.

I'm fond of the Leupold 3-4x40 AR scope. I have gone with a bit more power, but I believe they come at a lower power with a wider field of view. You can have them make you a turret calibrated to the ammo you are putting down the pipe for around $59 a pop. All in all a nice setup perhaps worth looking at?

If you are concerned about the durability/longevity of Aimpoint sights, there are tests out there that should put your mind at ease. There are several where Freddy Blish shoots a target with his rifle, takes the sight off, skips it across the parking lot to his helper, who then skips it back to him, he puts it back on the rifle and keeps shooting the target.

However, if you still don't feel comfortable, there are other options out there:

Leupold Prismatic

The catch is going to be the fixed carry handle. I tried that one time and is hard to get a good cheek weld and it has really bad offset to the bore and if you use a cheek rest, then you can't use your iron sights without taking off the cheek rest.

I would try just a cheap Walmart scope and see if you even like it 1st before you spend a bunch on a nice optic.

You should try the RDS though, as long as your eyes can use it, they can't be beat for the 0-150 yard zone for shooting gallon water jugs or bigger target.

Nikon makes a P-223 in 3x. I have the 3-9, and I'm very happy with it.

Does this mean you would also rule out the use of flashlights, NVG's, and the like? A scope is one thing, but eliminating a tool only because it uses batteries is a strange reason not to use them. Just curious, but that is your choice nonetheless.
