45 Super mods.

I've heard about firing pin modifications for the 45 Super. What are these modifications.
Also, Do you have to use those special spring paks with the reverse plug, or can you use a full length guide rod and 30# spring?
I'm wanting to modify my P14 (steel) for the Super.

Nyterunner, this is one 1911 conversion that I have stayed away from. I don't know what mods you might need to make to the firing pin. I really can't think of anything that would need to be done to it. You don't necessarily have to use a reverse plug for the full length guide rod if you are using a standard straight bbl. The reverse plugs are mainly designed for use with barrels that use a cone style lock up instead of a bushing. George

In addition to the extra power recoil springs and firing pin springs, I'd also consider using extra power magazine springs and hammer springs. Why? The magazine springs should help insure proper feeding after the installation of the very heavy recoil spring. The heavier hammer spring should help work with the recoil spring to keep the slide closed just a fraction longer.

They are probably refering to a longer than usual firing pin. You sometimes have to use them in 38 Supers and 40 S&W 1911's that have allot of high pressure rounds put through them to keep the firing pin out longer and keep the primer from flattening and shearing off a burr in the firing pin hole.
