7mm loading data for H1000
Here's some info that might be helpful for some of you. I bought a Ruger #1 stainless in a 7mm rem mag last year and just used factory ammo, 150 gr ballistic tips. I never could get better than a 2 to 3 in group with it, although I did take a buck with it last year at 320 yds. I loaded up some 140 gr Barnes XLC yesterday using H1000. The minimum load was 70 gr and the max was 75 gr with the data that barnes sent me. I loaded up 4 rounds each for 70 gr up to 74 gr. The 70 gr load shot about a 1 in group. The 71 gr. was about a 2 in group. The 72 gr was right at 1 in. as well. The 73 gr was horrible. About a 3 in group. And the 74 gr load I could put a nickle on all 4 holes. Needless to say, I'll be using the 74 gr load.

Trooper, a single four shot group tells you nothing. Even a 2" load will put 4 into 3/4" once in a while. You need to do a good bit more shooting before reaching a conclusion.
Something else to bear in mind is that if a single grain makes that much difference, a 30 degree temperature change may well do the same. |

I try to shoot about 50 rounds of each load personally before I decide on a load for sure. I am sure you know that even a small breeze could knock out a few rounds and give you a larger grouping

Hmmm. I'm really gonna have to play with this one. I've been meaning to try H-1000 for some time but have both my 6mm & 7mm loads dialed in tight with H-380 and haven't had the time to play with a new load for some time. But as this thread crops up I'm tempted again.

It does tell you something. I tells you where to start. Now I'm going to go back and load up about 40 rounds with the 74 gr. If it continues to group well, then I have my load. If it doesn't, then I'll try the next best one and see how that one pans out and go from there. If those don't work, then I start over with another powder or different bullet weight and see what works the best. This has been the system that I've used in the past with two .270 win., 7mm weatherby mag, and a .243. Maybe I've just been lucky in the past, but all of these are shooting under 1 in. groups with the load that shot the best 4 shot group.
