M1 Carbine Question

I'm in need of an extractor for an M1 Carbine. Should I buy just the extractor or is there a kit that I can purchase that will provide me with more than just an extractor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I haven't seen any kits as such.
Best to just order a new extractor, extractor spring and plunger, ejector and ejector spring, AND A BOLT TOOL.

I recommend buying the parts from someone like Fulton Armory, Orion 7, or another source of genuine USGI new parts.

BUY A BOLT TOOL.
While you "can" dissemble and reassemble the Carbine bolt without the tool you 'llreally, really, really wish you'd bought the tool.
Also note, while the Carbine bolt looks like a smaller M1 Rifle bolt it isn't.
Attempt to disassemble or reassemble the Carbine bolt like an M1 Rifle bolt and you'll ruin the extractor and plunger.

Yes, I agree with the above recommendation...buy a bolt tool. It will make it much easier. It holds everything in place for you. Otherwise you need 3-4 hands

The bolt tool is cool. But I doubt you will damage anything if you don't have one. It is just inconvenient, so much so that the extractor plunger may launch itself into orbit and not to be found again. I did the work without one several times already. Lost one plunger I admit. It can be done if you are careful.

The M1 Rifle bolt is disassembled by pushing or prying the extractor out and pushing it back in.

The M1 Carbine bolt's extractor has a "lip" that is interlocked with the extractor plunger.
Just pushing or prying the Carbine extractor out will break or damage the extractor and/or the extractor plunger.

The Carbine bolt tool properly depresses and holds the extractor plunger so the extractor can be pushed out without damage.

To get really in depth on any M1 carbine or Garand, go to the CMP web site. Click on sales ,then forum. I use this site for my issues with these rifles. A wealth of information.
