Stingers in Taurus PT22 ply
Got me the Taurus PT22 polymer lately. The manual advises to avoid firing HV rounds, which is odd because normally those are the ones that cycle straight blowback weapons best... Or sometimes even the ONLY ones that make a semiauto gun work properly...
Anyone with first-hand live firing experience with CCI Stingers on the PT22 poly here? Or will it really damage the gun? And if, any idea what ME those would generate out of a barrel that short?

I believe the Stinger is considered Hyper Velocity ammo, versus the CCI Mini Mags which are High Velocity. Stingers are rated at 1640fps, whereas Mini Mags are rated at 1260fps. I think the Stingers are also a bit longer, which could jam up the gun. I'd run Mini-Mags, and try any other bulk 22lr, but stay away from Stingers in that little Taurus.
Here's CCI's product info page off the net: http://www.cci-ammunition.com/products/varmint.aspx

I had a pt22 slide crack from standard high velocity ammo so I would think Stingers would abuse the gun. With such a short barrel on the gun Stingers would be overkill. I would probably just go with Mini Mags because they are very reliable.

Ive shot Stingers in my POLY PT-22. They function just fine. That doesnt mean I do it alot. I usually just shoot Blazers, and it functions just fine with those. I dont think I would shoot a steady diet of Stingers, but every once in a while, or if you want max energy for a carry pistol, I think they would be fine. It seems to be a rugged little pea shooter.

Check out ballisticsbytheinch.com they have some interesting statistics for 22lr performance from different length barrels and specific firearms.

I have shot many, many Stingers out of a Beretta 21A with no problems. Can't comment on the Taurus.
