folding stock for Mossberg 590

CDT has a folding stock for Mossberg 500. I am wondering if it can be fixed to model 590. Could you give me your opinions about folding stock?

Most stocks for the 500 also work for the 590. I have a 590 and just replaced the regular speedfeed stock with the Pistol Grip Speed Feed Stock. I find folding stocks on combat shot guns a little loose for me. The one that folds over the top from Choate is the tightest I have found. Anyway ain't the 590 great? Had mine out yesterday when a bad guy sent a Pitbull out after me.

Is this also true for the Tac-Star side saddle mount for the Mossberg 500? Will this fit the 590? I was handling one a couple days ago and it just listed the 500 as being acceptable for mounting.

i saw an interesting Moss 500 at a gunshow this weekend...

it had a collapsable stock
buttplate with two steel rods that ran into side mounts on a pistol grip
looked kinda bladerunneresque

As far as I know all accesories for 500/590 are interchangable.

if every part is interchangeable between 500 and 590, then is it possible to put a choke on 590 if that choke is for 500?

If it's the zytel stock, then save your money. The locking mechanism is plastic so the buttstock shifts around when extended. The Mossberg also doesn't function with the stock folded because it interferes with the forearm. If you want a folding stock, I'd suggest one of the ones by Butler Creek or Choate.

Just about anything you can buy for the Mossberg 500 will fit on the 590, since they are in fact built on the same receivers. Chokes are fit to the barrels themselves, not the gun, and the 590 comes without a interchangeable choke barrel, so no on the choke question.

They're rare, but there were some 590A1's with Accu-Choke (or whatever it's called). I saw one at a gun show once. They've been discontinued.

Or consider taking your 590 to a smith and have him fit the choke to it. It ain't cheap, but it can be done. All that has to be done is that the end of the barrel has to be tapped and then the choke fitted. Again, if you've never done one, take it to a smith that has.

I HIGHLY recommend Butler Creek's folding shotgun stocks. They are available in blued or stainless steel, lock up dead tight open or closed, and are the most comfortable I have found. I have them on my Moss. 500, and Rem. 870. Cost is usually under $100. Take Care- Dakotan

Back when I was a young hotshot instructor, I could fire a 870 with standard stock and 00 traverse fire at 5 silohuettes with good hits at 15 yds in about 5 seconds. Going to a pistol grip dropped the pellet count and upped the time.Using a folder wasn't much better.

Pistol grips and folders are great if you're auditioning for Miami Vice II, but not so good in the real world.

could you explain why it was not much better when using a folding stock? It was because the stock was loose or its bad ergonomics. If it is in a unfolded position, it should work exactly the same as a nomal stock, shouldn't it. Could you explain why because I am very curious.

First, Vince, the folder was metal,and had no recoil pad. Most non hunting folks dread a shotgun's kick and I can't say I ever got fond of it myself out of a 6lb,12 oz riot gun with 00.As for slugs ,well...

Also,Remington recalled the ones we were using, some folks had their cheeks cut in recoil. And, it only happened with the folks who got a good cheek weld. Lawsuits galore.

What the FBI taught me about hip shooting was....

Use a standard stock with the forearm parallel to the stock on the strong hand side.Weld it into your ribs and keep it tight. Lean into the shot.

Keep the weak hand elbow locked or you'll shoot high/right.

Use only at contact ranges or when even the tiny fraction of a second needed for a good mount was too darn long.

I've probably shot 300-500 rounds of 00 in demonstrations and practice,and could put on a good show for the rookies. But if it ever really hits the fan and I'm using a shotgun, youcanbettyourwhatever it'll be wearing a standard stock and mounted.
