Cast HPs - Good Results
I’m pretty happy with the performance of the hollow point bullets I recently cast and loaded. The 44 Mag and 38 Spl bullets came from Lyman four cavity molds (429215 and 358156). The molds were modified by Erik Ohlen (www.hollowpointmold.com). The 9mm bullets came from a Lyman HP mold (255415).
The lead was a mix of ½ wheel weights and ½ pure lead. I was particularly surprised by the expansion of the 38 Spl fired from a 2 inch barrel. The penetration for the 44 and 38 was greater than 9 inches of water. The 38 also shot a 4in group at 25 yards from the same stubby. All and all a pretty good start.
