Just in time for Christmas

Seasonal bullet lube!
(It's just my standard bp lube of 50/50 beeswax and olive oil, and one colored crayon.)
The green is starting to solidify, so it's mottled for the moment.
Happy Holidays!!!

(oh, and a special thanks to the member who provided the beeswax!!)

First impression was this thread was some sort of spam, perhaps jam spam. Anyhow, I read the words and had a good laugh.

You have to take a business end photo of that when you do and post it.

Yep. I work two jobs and I'm off from both for 4 days and I'm not used to it yet.
What to do...what to do!?!

I did get out and use some powder and balls in the 1860 yesterday though, and I plan to use many more over the next couple of days.
I'm behind in my shooting.

Have you noticed if the lube with the crayon wax in it creates any additional residue than if using a lube without any crayon in it?
If I wanted to color wax I would probably opt to use food coloring instead of a crayon.
However the crayon coloring did a very nice job of producing the intended seasonal effect.

Well, it's one crayon mixed in with 6 oz of olive oil and 6 oz of beeswax. (That's not a recipe, that's just what fits in my little tupperware container) 'Not a very high concentration. But I'm headed to the back yard to research the residue issue right now...
With all the gunk that shooting BP produces normally, I'd probably be able to burn tire plugs as wads and not notice much more....

Food coloring is water based and doesn't mix well with wax and oil... but if you think a crayon adds too much foreign substances in your mix, you could go with concentrated candle coloring chips. It doesn't take very many of these at all. One pack contains 10 chips and is enough for around 10# of wax.

But crayons are a quarter for a box.

I am confused as to what this is for? In the cylinders?

Learn me.

Update..... after exhaustive testing at my own personal expense... (using two cylinders ).... fouling is not any more noticeable than without crayon. In fact, the limiting factor requiring the cessation of testing, is the fouling of the flash holes in the nipples, as usual. . . . which is independent of any type lube at all. Cylinders did not bind, nor did arbor holes get excessively gummed up.

Looks like Jello. Why are your flash holes fouling after two cylinders?

'Sorry..... misleading. I had two different cylinders and was rotating them out, so I could shoot 12 times without reloading. I fired many balls today.

It didn't look so much like Jello after it cooled.

Thanks for the tip about the colored wax chips, and I'm glad that the crayon doesn't cause any fouling issues.
However the same outfit also sells liquid soap dye that could be used like the colored wax chips. The color selection is limited but the soap dye is also described as being very concentrated.
Your lube came out to be very colorful though, and the crayons seem to work great. I just wasn't so sure about the composition of the crayon wax and its interaction with black powder. Some crayons might be different than others.

Standard crayons are 3.5 inches in length and made mostly of petroleum paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is heated and cooled to achieve the correct temperature in which a usable wax substance can be dyed and then manufactured for use around the world. Paraffin waxes are used for cosmetics, candles, for the preparation of printing ink, fruit preserving, in the pharmaceutical industry, for lubricating purposes, and crayons.

I'd stick with wax crayons. I don't know if anybody makes plastic crayons.... but go ahead and spend the whole quarter and get the good stuff.

I have not tried nor read about using soap dye. I do know that several of the guys over at castboolits forum use crayons and candle coloring chips in their lubes with happy results though.

Just get out and shoot!
Christmas is nearly here and it's really too late to order either product anyway. And for the next 3 months I'll have to explain to people why my lube is either red or green.
