Does any one have an idea of how to mark a
firearm ( as in property of...) I have seen
acid etchings that were pretty good. One of
our LEO's was carjacked the other night and
lost her duty gun, so I'm trying to find a cheap way to do this .so it will look good. Offlist replies are welcome at:

I have an Etch-O-Matic marking system that I use to mark my magazines. It marks "electro-chemically". I got it from an industrial tool supply house for around $60.00. You type your label on a special paper and then use it as a stencil. The kit will do alot of markings before you would have to buy more supplies for it.

I would rather use this method than one of the vibrating electric pencils.

Thanks Jim V. I have been in touch with the company and they are sending me samples of
their work. I have about 75 guns to mark so this looks like the way to go. I hadn't thought of marking the mags thats a good idea.

I'd suggest laser etching. It looks great, is reasonably cheap and quick, and you can get graphics, logos, text, whatever you need. Probably there is an outfit in your area that can help you out, they seem to be everywhere. Aluminum frame guns don't even need refinishing, you can just have it done and go right back to work. Hope this helps.
