I haven't seen this addressed in the thread yet.
WHICH Hornady One shot are you using? Yes there are 2 versions. I bought a pump spray of the environmentally safe version a while back & got the exact same problem, a case so jammed in the die even Hornady couldn't get it back out. (They did replace the dies free instead). While discussing the problem with a CSR at Hornady he asked me the same question, which one shot? It turns out there was a run of the eco-friendly stuff that was horrible, I had that hand pump with the greenish label. When I told him this he had me return it with the stuck die & replaced it with the 5.5 oz aerosol can of spray one shot (the one with the red label.) That works perfectly well & I'd probably buy it again.

I bought that pump bottle years ago, tried it and hated it. Stuck it in the back and thought I would save it for an emergency. Finally got tired of looking at it and threw it away. Seems like many industries try to find green alternatives for some of their better products, can't think of one that has been successful. I'm not up to date on aerosol propellants but I thought they were okay now.

I have had a couple spray lubes and wasn't happy with them. I continue to use RCBS 2 on a lube pad or Redding Imperial Sizing Die Wax. I have on odd occasion used Lee lube or Amsoil motor oil on cases.

I use only OneShot for both rifle and pistol cases. Straight case, tapered case, bottleneck style, it doesn't matter. Haven't had a stuck case yet; or a dented case neck for that matter. I also tumble all my cases before resizing so I wonder if the reason some seem to have problems is that they're starting with much dirtier cases?
Obviously, you need to let the carrier flash off before stuffing them into the die, but what's left is just a very good wax, that I don't even worry about removing after reloading. I also like that it's inert to primer and powder contamination, which can't be said for the old style oils, etc. For those with a bad experience with OneShot, I wonder how many are cleaning/tumbing cases before using it? |

The easy way out is many times not the easy way!
But then I realize I've only been reloading for 50 plus years.

I don't know what the difference is between those who get stuck cases & those that don't but I've used the aerosol spray for a while now with zero problems!
In case it help here's what I do. Maybe you can find something in my technique that differs from yours & might help? I use the same technique with .303 Brit & MilSurp .308, so I don't think caliber has a lot to do with it. 303 is a very light round to resize & MilSurp .308 is a lot more stubborn. This is in sequence, I don't know how vital (if at all) that is. Cases are tumbled in walnut media & wiped off with a paper towel. I lay them down flat on a metal cookie sheet, not upright in a case tray. Shake the can for a couple of minutes after you hear the marble start rattling. Make 2~3 passes across the whole tray with the can 18~24" away. Try to spray fairly evenly. Rotate cases roughly 1/2 turn. (I don't get real specific on this, about 50% is fine. Repeat spray. The caes are not dripping wet its a double-sided light spray, not a heavy, one sided effect I'm looking for. Cleaned dies (RCBS steel, not carbide) are wiped inside sizer only with a Q-Tip with a dab of spray on the cotton just to kick-start the lube. Cases are picked up from tray & put neck up into loading blocks. First block goes on bottom of stack & others sit on top. Primers are oriented & loaded into press's priming system (everything else is ready anyway at this point, but it gives a few minutes more for the lube to set up.) Start reloading.

No one makes/sells a 'bad' sizing lube but there are some 'bad' users who ignore the instructions, stick a case and blame the lube.

This is the bad stuff: & this is the good stuff they replaced it with. You're right about 99.9% of them though, most work just fine it's operator error.

I only use One Shot on 223. I put around 200 cases in a one gallon Zip-lok bag and give it a good spray. Close the bag and mix them around. Repeat one more time. Dump them out and let them dry for a few minutes. I have loaded a few thousand cases and never have a problem. Cases size very easy.

I hate all things Hornady and I get crucified for it at work. That's overstated a little, I use some of their case prep stuff and I really like their OAL gauge. Other than that, not a fan either.

OK, for all of you guys that like One Shot here a great deal.
I'll all sell 3 cans for $5 plus shipping (I can do Click & Ship for $6.00), barely used any of it. If you're interested send me a private message. I'll accept Paypal, checks, food stamps, pesos, euros, whatever.

I've been handloading (off/on) for close to 40 yrs. Always used RCBS case lube with the pad. Never a stuck case. I tired One Shot for the first time last week. I followed the directions. 2 stuck cases out of the first 100. I'll finish up the bottle, but no more to be at my bench.
