Power Pistol muzzle flash?

I recently purchased some Power Pistol powder becasue so many people on this board have sang its praises. I loaded up some 9mm at 6.5 g behind 115 gr JHP. When I went to the range the muzzle flash was crazy and I felt as if the kick was much more than normal. Is this normal? Is this powder that much stronger than normal powders? This was not a heavy load according to my Lyman manual. Does anyone have any recipes for 9mm 115gr JHP and 40 S&W 165gr TMJ?

My Lyman book shows 6.5 at oal 1.090 is max.I use either 5.7 or 6.1 with 124 grain fmj.I would think the 6.1 with a 115 jhp would good, don't know about any 40 cal loadings.

The flash and bang with pp is noticeable, especially at max loadings.

40 S&W data

BerettaBill,

Speer's Manual #14 lists 7.0 gr (start) and 7.8 gr (max) for Power Pistol with the 165 gr TMJ bullet. Velocities were given as 978 and 1081 fps, respectively, using a 4" S&W M4006.
