Mossberg/Maverick situation.

I am in the process of putting the factory forestock on a Mav 88 and am having fits trying to get the nut started. It is a tight fit in the stock. I have tried putting the stock on first than the nut and putting the nut in the stock and sliding down to the threads and start. Just can't seem to get it started.... Before you ask... Nope I do not have the spanner wrench, just pliers.
