Which black powder pistol ???? - Page 2

Ok I have found the pistol I like and think I'm going to buy it

It states at the bottom it is a .44 cal and the barrel is rifled!!
Does this mean that it is lead cast bullets that I fire rather than lead balls

Good choice.

I recommend a .454 round ball.

Round balls will be more accurate.

Do you have american pioneer powder available?I use it in my ROA and I can shoot until I'm tired of it without it fouling it out and is the easiest to clean.All they reccomend to clean is just warm water.

I'm not sure, haven't got that far yet. I know black powder and pyrodex is readily available plus the usual rifle reloading powders which obviously isn't what you use. It would be good to get something that isn't so corrosive like that to shoot. I'll ask at my local gun shop when I'm in next thanks

I've just found this stands. I'm interested in the second loading device down on the list but I think buying just about everything on the page would be handy

Theres a cleaning kit I'd like, wadding patches and lead balls. Lead balls on the page are about 5 times cheaper on there than any where in the uk I can find

The wooden stands are quite nice for loading on the gun at the range.

But I have really no use for one if I am loading my Colts 6 shots at a time...I have 10 extra cylinders for my Remingtons and the loading Tower works really well for loading all the cylinders at once.

Don't worry about the chain fires...I have had a few, and none of them were that exciting....(a little scairy maybe)...And EVERY SINGLE ONE of them came from the FRONT of the cylinder,,,not the caps. I tested it a lot trying to induce it. They come from sloppy powder use when loading and from undersized balls or from getting the spur angled to the side...(this is a biggy)

I even had a chain with a felt wad under the ball...but I loaded the ball with the spur angled to the side....the funny thing about this one (actually 2 with the same cylinder loading) was that the caps stayed in place and were still good and unfired on the cylinders that had fired

But I was NEVER able to induce the chain fire by leaving the caps off the fully loaded cylinder....then capped and fired each chamber indiviually.

I really enjoy my Colts...hard to pick a favorite but it is probly between the 1851 Navy...and the Walker.

But you gotta love the Remingtons

I like the feel of the Colt Army. The Colt Navy seems a little small but I'll probably get one at some point. I have fired something that was similar to the Whitney (maybe a Remington) and wasn't too happy with the feel of that pistol. I'll have to ask my friend that owns it.... regardless I'll give Remington a try.
