My dad was in the Phillipines during the war.

Yes.

Occupation Pesos.

They were backed by nothing, and thus the inflation rate got kind of.... out of control.

After the Philippines were liberated the United States took hundreds of millions of confiscated and uncirculated pesos and dumped them into Manila Bay.
