Ranger brass question

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a "rating" scale using range brass for reloads? Poor, good, excellent or is it all just crap?

If it's crap then there are a lot of people making $$$$$ selling crap.

Seriously, pick it up, inspect it, clean it and inspect it again. Seperate by headstamp if you desire (I don't for plinking ammo). Check straight wall brass for split mouths. Check bottle necks with a bent paper clip for potential head seperation..

AMERC brass really IS crap. Even I don't want it.

At my range I can say if its good or not,for not to many people use the range I use.If I am just picking it up then I'll do a good look over before I choose to use it.Pistol isn't that big a deal,rifle is something I want to really look out for.Not knowing the brass for a rifle is a leave it alone for me,but if it has a brass looking primer in it then I'll use it after a work over first.Just take a close look at it then go with your gut.

knowing the shooter tells on the brass to how good it is or not.

And as medalguy said, if it says AMERC on it, throw it in the scrap bucket.

I go to a pay for play public range. I love it right before deer season for rifle brass. Many will show up with bags full of boxed ammo. They shoot it all up, leave the bag, and most times put the brass back in the box. Most times the recipt is still in the bag as well. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the recipt for a box .300 RUM and knowing the guy left two boxes of the brass behind in the boxes. I am waiting for someone to leave me some .45-70 GOVT. brass.

IME, "AMERC" is the only one that's more trouble than it's worth.

Nickel plated brass does not last as long .... the plating flakes off or the case mouth splits sooner than regular brass. It seems to feed better and stays shiny, though.

Why would range brass be crap?
Most of it is once fired brass, one shot from new.
Reloaders don't leave their used brass behind.
