Very old 8mm Mauser

I just got an old Mauser that my grandfather acquired sometime right after ww2 and it looks like its in pretty nice shape only thing is that it has what looks like an ancient Burris scope on it and I'm not sure if they were in business back then. Anybody know what this gun could potentially be worth?

'Very old ' ? The cartridge has been around a long time -back from the 1800s !
About 1905 the bullet diameter was changed to the present one .Is the rifle a military one , if so what are the markings ? That will tell you when and where it was made .Many were brought here after the war and in various guises were left as is or made into very fine custom rifles.

Ill post some pictures tomorrow once I get a chance to run down to the safe and dig it back out. I only say very old because hell I'm 26 and my father learned how to shoot on that gun when he was 8.

You need to elaborate quite a bit before we can give you a price.

Speaking of objective descriptions, you're going to need to give a very complete description of your gun in order for us to even have a tinker's chance at telling you anything about it.

Better yet, good, CLEAR photographs. And by clear photographs, that includes photos of the markings on your gun.

The best way to do that is to figure out if your camera has a Macro setting. If it does, that will allow you to take clear close ups.

there were alot of makers of rifles in that caliber as well... I just dug out 2 sporterized Czech rifles ( 2 different models if I remember right ) that are both chambered in 8 mm Mauser... both still wear the original stepped military barrels, one even quite pitted on the outside ( like blood would do if trapped between the original stock & the barrel ), but the bores are incredible shape, with very deep rifling... I think I sighted one in for my FIL many years ago... thing kicked like a mule

You question is about as specific as : "I have a old car with new tires that my grandpa gave me can anyone tell me what it is worth?"

The car would be at least worth the value of the tires, and your mauser is worth at least the price of a used Burris scope.
