Here is my suggestion to you. Go to a rough neighborhood and seek out a veteran cop with 20+ years on. Check to be sure he's a highly decorated officer with the highest awards that can be issued. Make sure that his department issues free practice and duty ammo. Ask him how many rounds he's shot through his 20+ year old Glock and then tell him he's full of crap when he answers. His response will be my answer to all of your questions.

im not sure about veteran police officers but i am sure about veteran military.. i dont know of anyone who still carries a handgun that has 50,000 rounds through it. when my TAURUS makes it to that number im gonna retire the old gal. im 41 years old and i doubt i will shoot 50,000 more rounds in my TAURUS, but im sure gonna try. i dont even think METHUSALA'S handgun has that many rounds through it

Chambered for the .45 round, neither the Glock or the Taurus are *great* handguns.

Taurus has never exactly had the best reputation for their .45s, but they've come a long way. They're not exceedingly accurate, nor do they have the best trigger system out there. But despite what some people say, the new .45s are still pretty good guns. You get what you pay for with the Taurus.

Glock has never exactly had the best reputation for their .45s either, but a better reputation than Taurus. Is it warranted? Yes and no. Glocks, even chambered for the .45 round, are reliable guns. You can find pictures of ANY kind of gun blowing up. But we shouldn't necessarily pawn those pictures off as being reflective of Glock .45s in general. I daresay that there are many more Glock owners than there are Taurus owners. Furthermore, Glocks have been around far longer than the newer generation .45 cal Taurus guns. So the comparison is unfair.

With that being said, Glocks aren't extremely accurate guns either. The Glock .45's reputation precedes it, but it would still be disingenuous to call it unreliable.

For me the Glock 21 all the way. I know kabooms happen... but when considering the number of Glocks in the world versus the number of kaboom stories and pictures on the internet I'd say the odds are pretty low. Without knowing the real story behind each kaboom it's hard to really rate them too.

Thanks for the posts wolf, gw and ace. From threads I have read on TFL, Ace has had some awful luck with more than one Taurus pistol he has owned. On one or two of those threads, I have weighed in that I have had better luck with the one Taurus I own. I have a PT1911 that I really like and just shoot better and better the more I get the chance to take it to a range. Just over 1K rounds thru and so far it hasn't fallen apart or anything! To gw's point, I doubt I'll ever get to 50k rounds (I'm too old), but if the PT falls apart at 1001 rounds then perhaps I join Ace's team.

I also have a Colt, Ithaca, (2) Ruger, Savage, and SW that have varied range time and they haven't fallen apart either. I am a blessed man! I'll be adding another SW to my safe really soon, and probably a Glock soon after that. I'm an equal opportunity shooter...

Let's see any Taurus with 50 thousand or more rounds through it then we'll talk. My latest generation snazzy PT145 lasted a grueling 65 or so rounds before breaking and having to be sent back to the factory. It wasn't the guns fault though, I think I was squeezing it too hard! Say what you want, Tauri are not the pinnacle of accuracy, reliability or durability.
Whenever i criticize Ford products on the basis of the pair of losers i've owned, people usually tell me something like "anecdotal evidence isn't relevant on a large scale" and such. I understand your predjudice against the Taurus clan. The fact that the company has the same name as a ford car i hated does make me somewhat distrustful of the brand.

inSight-NEO; Springfield Armory XD45ACP- Thirteen round capacity, fully supported ramp, durable...reliable...easy to shoot...ergonomic...accurate...proven...and top-notch CS. Oh, and all for less than $500 (minus tax).

Need I say more?
Correction. That would be 14rd. capacity (One in the tube don'tcha know!) Mine has been 100% reliable, accurate enough for me to qualify with a 296/300 with plain old hardball at 25 yards on an Army-L target, feeds every type of premium HP I have tried in it, and has been my main carry gun since I put it through it's reliability test.

I know lots of folks who love their Glocks, and I don't belittle them, but for me, the XD-45 exceded my expectations by a mile. Also, it fits my large hands better than any semi-auto pistol I have ever held. I really like my H&K USP, and my 1911s, but the XD is my constant companion. One spare magazine means 27 rds. of .45 immediately accessable. (Not that one needs more than one or two at most. It's not like we're talking 9mm here! )

My mistake. I was talking mag capacity vs. overall capacity as not everyone keeps the chamber "hot". Therefore, this extra round could be construed as somewhat superfluous.

Regardless, Ill take the XD over any Glock. Ive nothing against Glocks. They simply dont "fit" my needs at this time.

I'd look at the FNP45. As soon as I get the funds,(If ever) I'm going to look pretty hard myself!

Just funnin' with you inSight-NEO! I agree with everything you said. Too bad some states only allow 10 rd. magazines. Kind of defeats the purpose that I bought the gun for in the first place. My travels take me through one of those socialist states, so I gotta use the 10s. No big deal, just the priciple of it!

I was never actually an XD fan. I didn't care for my XD SC40 because it was too snappy. It was painful to shoot for me and several others that I let try it. Enter the XDm. I just picked up a stainless full sized 9mm XDm. Now that's a fantastic shooter! I took it to the range today. Very accurate and reliable with 19 rounds in a factory mag. Not bad! Maybe an XDm 45 compact would be worth looking at?

My money keeps going to H&K. I've heard the CS isn't great, but I don't know anyone personally thats ever had to deal with them.

Funny...I was at the local range 8 days ago. I ran 300 rounds thru my Pt145 pro. I watched a very angry man 3 booths down with a Kimber SIS throw it on the ground, jam, jam, jam, jam...etc, you get the idea.
Did you report him? How anyone be so immature as to throw their firearm on the ground?

Correction, that would be 13+1
