OK, one question...

Are you sure that your revolver hasn't been converted to double action only?

If it has, replacing the hammer may not give you single action capability.

I highly doubt that your hammer is actually stainless because, to my knowledge, stainless internal parts were discontinued with the introduction of the 66-1 due to galling issues. More likely, your hammer and trigger are flash hard chromed. Gun Parts Corp. has the part you need though, as Mike Irwin pointed out, it may not return a DAO gun to DA/SA.

A "Flash Chromed" S&W K-frame hammer is what you are looking for.

Some of the early production 66-4's were equipped with them.

Your best bet is Brownells or Numrichs - or placing a WTB ad on the S&W forum. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

Thanks for the response, the hammer will lock back into single action. Looks like it's just been ground down and smoothed. Are there different triggers available such as target.

Yes there were wider and longer factory Target hammers made for your gun, although these are somewhat harder to find these says.
These were listed as "Target hammer, .500" wide".
These will often state "stainless" although as above, they're actually hard chrome plated.

If you can only find a hammer in standard color cased finish, most of the gun platers offer special pricing for small parts like a hammer and you can have it plated to match the factory look.

Gun Parts have the narrow "Service" hammers and the standard wider "Combat) hammers available for the Model 66-4. part number 46.

When changing the hammer, remove the double action strut from the old hammer and install it in the new one.

313980

Hammer Assembly, Target, Stainless (.500)

Will this fit my 66-4 2.5 and is this the wide hammer spur.

313980 is the S&W Target hammer, but they're out of stock.

313990 is known as the Combat hammer and is the hammer that was standard on all S&W Model 66 revolvers including the 2 1/2" version. It's .375 wide.

It's wider than the Service type hammer (.265), but not as wide or as long as the full Target hammer (.500) wide.

The only Model 66's that got the wider, longer Target hammer were some of the 6" barrel models.
The full Target hammer is sort of out of place on a 2 1/2" gun because it's too big for a CCW type revolver. The .375 Combat hammer is perfect.
