CCW: Glock 22 or 1911?

I am somewhat torn between carrying a glock 22 or a 1911 for CCW use. I am familiar and comfortable with both; There are pros and cons for either.

For those of you who own both glocks and 1911's, which do you prefer? While my Kimber 1911 holds 8+1, my glock 22 today can now legally hold 15+1. Going with the glock may save me from carrying a 1911 and an additional magazine. The glock is also much lighter. However, I have a nice set of lasergrips on the Kimber and it really is such a beautiful piece.

What is in your experience?

I have found the carrying my Officers Model produces a hole in my clothing, where the hammer (cocked and locked, of course) abrades against it.

No such problem with the Glock of course.

And, with 15 rounds, its more of a "strap on one thing and go" proposition, if 6 or 7 or 8+1 one is making you feel inadequate, and you don't have a spare mag carrier.

And if its CCW, who's gonna see those lasergrips, anyhow?

You dont carry a spare mag regardless of capacity?

I've carried both. The 1911's are much more comfortable and easier to hide.

Both are fine pistols. They are two entirely different pistol however.

As much as I like the 1911 platform, I would suggest that you decide which is better for you as far as safe handling and how well you shoot each.

There's nothing wrong with a G22 especially now with a more readily available "standard capacity" 15 round magazine in it. 15+1 of .40 S&W isn't bad.

Without weighing both pistols fully loaded, I'll venture to say that the G22 will be lighter than the FS 1911. This could/will be a factor for all day carry.

I love the 1911 and have a couple readily available to carry but I carry a G27 on a daily basis based on size, weight and mag capacity.

My choices are either a 1911 Government or Commander, or either a G lock 19 or 26...

I find I carry the 1911s just about everywhere, I do carry a backup magazine with either rig. They seem to balance the weight better.

I have carried both, and I currently carry a Kimber Cutom II. For me, the 1911 is just easier to carry and hide and I tend to shoot it a tad bit better. Really, it all boils down to whichever you are more comforatble with. Either is a fine weapon.

I would advise carrying, at least, an extra mag for those pesky malfunctions that tend to only happen when the doo-doo is flying.

I can shoot the 1911 better, faster, and more accurately than the Glocks, and it fits my hand better. Also, the 1911 in .45 fits me fine, while the Glocks in the same caliber are too blocky for my hand. So, between a 9mm/.40 Glock and a .45 1911, I'd give preference to the 1911.

During the warmer months, I carry a G19. Once it cools off and I am in pants I carry my Colt Gov't Model.

I carried both. It has always been legal to carry 15+1. I carried the G22 more for some reason. I guess because it's rugged and I can sweat on it without any ill effect. I had 15+1 in the gun and 30 on my weak side. Like I would ever use all 46 rounds.

Echo that, Spirex288. In the badlands I'd prefer a 4x4 pickup over a BMW.

Competition is sump'n else. No Glock'll hold a candle to my custom 1911.

Both good guns.

Sold my Glocks, still carry 1911's as my primary CCW guns. Nice and flat and easily modified to suit the firer.
