What calibers can be loaded with .451 or .452 bullets??
Pretty straight forward question. And yes I am a noob. I am asking because I have some 300gr bullets and all I have right now are .45acp. I am pretty sure a cartridge that heavy might be a bit much, especially for beginner reloaders.

45 Colt, 454 Casull, and 460 Mag all use that bullet.

You'll find most 300 grain bullets are too long for the .45 ACP. The ACP brass's case wall thickens as you approach the case head, which mean a bullet base driven that far in will bulge the case beyond being able to chamber it. I have a 300 grain bullet design for .45 ACP that I had a custom mold made for. It has a slight boattail (or a big bevel base, whichever you prefer) to avoid that problem.

verti89, if you aren't going to use the bullets in your loads, I might be interrested if they will be for sale. Are they lead or jacketed?

They are jacketed, it is a box of 100, but I don't know that we have decided to sell them. We actually also have a bag of about 900 JSWC that don't feed into our semi-autos. I think we are going to hold onto them right now as it makes for one heck of an excuse to get another gun. Since both should work in .45 LC I think that has moved into my list of guns I might need

I like your thinking!
You definitely need a new gun to shoot those suckers up! Now that we know they are jacketed, it means you need an even funner gun. Those jacketed 300 gr were most likely intended for a 454 Casull or 460 mag. At the very least you need to get a real strong gun to shoot 45 Colt +P in them to take advantage of the jacketed construction. |
