remington 8mm muzzle break or?
Hi guys im new to the forum and having work done on my guns. So I got a Remington 8mm8mm mag as a family heirloom and I have it in at a local gunsmith who is fitting it with a new recoil pad and he recommended having a muzzle break put in it. Bit my question is if I should have a muzzle break put on or have a new barrel made with a muzzle break added? The bore looked good he said but I don't if there are gonna be any big gains from changing the barrel? It was hist mentioned to me so im wondering. Also he said it would cost $200 for the muzzle break to be add ed to the existing barrel
thanks!! |

Have you shot it?

Rem123:
Whether you need a muzzle break or not depends on your tolerance to recoil. I shoot a 338 magnum without a break. I shoot a 375 H&H magnum without a break but a break would be nice. Semper Fi. Gunnery sergeant Clifford L. Hughes USMC Retired |

thanks for the replies! but no i havn't gotten to shoot it yet because i originally took the rifle in to have the trigger adjusted because it was way to light for my taste.
but as far as my tolerance im not to sure iv shot 308's 30-06's and a 375 h&h when I went to alaska without a problem, but the few people who iv talked to made it sound like the 8mm was the worst thing to ever? |

When you shoot it, wear ear muffs, not just ear plugs. I had a 8mm Rem Mag for a few years, and shooting it was like having your head slammed in a car door. Muzzle blast and recoil were substantial, in the "impossible to ignore" category. My 375 H&H did not kick as bad. I would not add a brake, it will just make the muzzle blast worse.
