what do you call them, a long pistol or a short rifle??
i assume that barrel length is measured from bolt face to muzzle

By BATFE Rules

A firearm made as a handgun may be configured as a rifle, then return to a pistol configuration.

A firearm made as a rifle can not be configured as a handgun unless it is registered under the NFA as a short barreled rifle.
