CVA Wolf Loads
I have a new CVA Wolf. Anyone have any expirience with this gun. I plan to use 3 30 gr 777 pellets for a hunting load and 2 30 gr pellets as a paper finder. The "pot metal" reciever looks like a weak link to me and I hesitate to take the rifle above 100 gr of anything. Comments please.

you're just wasting expensive powder with 3 pellets. The frame will stand up to it but the accuracy most likely will suffer due to a short barrel and 3 pellets. Get some loose powder, start at 80gr and pick a projectile to try out. 80gr T7 loose and a 295gr powerbelt seems like an accurate load in these.

Thanks for the info. I am going to use 250 gr .50 /45 cal T/C ShockWave sabots and (2) T7 30 gr pellets. Based on what I have read in this forum this should give me about an equivilent to 75 gr of pyrodex. How w does that sound? The twist rate is 1:28 ". Is this too fast for a patched round ball? Someone just told me that and have not had time to research it.

with that low powder charge the patched round ball should do okay. i'd get some .015 - .018 patches and try them both out.

would just try them both at 2 and 3 30 grain pellets but if you havent purchased the pellets yet you should consider getting loose powder and a powder measure probably want a couple of speed loaders also.
pellets work ok in some rifles but loose powder is almost always more accurate plus it allows you to adjust your load better if you cant get decent groups would suspect the pellets is causing most of the problem. |

Shortwave, where do I go to varify that T7 pellet loads are equal to Pyrodex loads and that Hodgdon has taken the 15% (a size reduction?) out of it to make it equal, and that T7 loose powder will still be 15% hotter per equal volume ? Can anyone else varify that?

pyrodex pellets and T7 pellets are equal to eachother, They've made the adjustments to the T7 pellets so they are equal to the Pyrodex charge.
Now T7 loose is 15% hotter than pyrodex RS-Select loose. When using T7 i just cut my loads back by 10 grains to match the loose RS charge.

wolf
sea buck, i have shot 3 50 gr. t-7 pellets out of my wolf before, it can handle it. i dont think you need that much though.i shoot 2 50 gr, t-7 pellets with a cci m/l primer pushing a 300 gr. xtp mag with good results. the gun also likes thompsons's 240 gr."cheap shots" with 2 pellets and t-7 primers. i swab with alcohol between each shot with both loads.i havnt taken anything furry yet, but the gun groups well.

I just got one a week ago so I haven't done much testing, but so far I'm getting ok results with 80 grains of Pyrodex Select, a lubed felt wad, and an unlubed Lee 250 grain REAL bullet over the wad. When I lube the bullet I actually get worse accuracy. The lubed wad does seem to keep fouling in check fairly well, but I'm also swabbing between shots with a damp patch.
I'm getting about 3" groups from the bench at 50 yards, but that's with the factory sights and using a target that was neon green against a white backer. I think I could do better with a black target that had more contrast. |

Hey folks, thanks for all the information. Since I have already purchased T7 50/30 pellets I will try those with 250gr and 200gr Shockwave sabots using 3 30 gr T7 pellets for a hunting load(that should be shoulder friendly!) I think I'll try a patched round ball and a bore button with the 3 T7 pellets also, just to have fun. 100 yd shots at anything in this neck of the woods is a rarity.

Sea Buck you may also want to try the 250 grn. Hornady SST`s. Same as the Shockwave`s only cheaper around here. Enjoy!
