AK-47 Kits in NY

Does any one have any magic answers regarding building an AK from a kit and purchasing a pre ban receiver? I live in NY (outside the city) and the Brady Bill is still alive some three years after it's death else where in this country. Pre ban AK's have gotten pricey and you can't select a specific build arsenal, your just happy to find one for less than a pair of lungs. So it seems like a kit may be an option. Does any one have any experience with these or suggestions on buying an pre ban AK at a good price?

Be very careful. I have a friend in Albany that bought a AK from a dealer, asked very specific questions about it being legal, ect.. He later found out it is not NYS compliant. Long story short it is now part of a criminal case.

NY has some very specific rules on the content of the parts kit. His was something about parts from China I think. You need expert advise on this one.
