NJ and ar-15 80 lower casting

I know the BATF allows me to machine an 80 % casting and build a lower for an ar15. My question is can I do this legally in Jersey for my own use and not for resale? I can find only info for commercial manufacturers.

Could check with state police: http://www.njsp.org/divorg/invest/fi...vest-unit.html

Or AG's office: http://www.state.nj.us/lps/

Or firearms lawyer of your own choosing

All better options than doing so based on info from the net

+1 to what Stressfire said.

Also something to consider, even if it is legal, if it is not a common and accepted practice up there, it may cause you headaches. LEO don't always know the details firearms law. California is a good example of this. Until recently, people getting arrested for a legal rifle happened more often than it should have, with various LEA not knowing the finer details of the law surrounding firearms.

But did you call? Or even visit the office?

You might even get more of a willingness to be helpful from them if you go in person and they can see you're not a nutjob

Physical presence also goes a ways to avoid being ignored

The contact info I linked for NJSP is for their firearms investigation division

Your right

A face to face is always the way to go, a phone call is for the most part a waste on time up in Trenton. Just figured I was not the first to try it here and was wondering how others made out with their brick walls, Thanks

This site has members that are well versed in NJ gun laws. Some of them are also cops and lawyers. This seems to be the 'go-to' site for NJ gun owners.

If you are looking for helpful, dont expect the NJSP to apply, also even less helpful is the AG's office. Probably the best is to contact evan nappen, or someone at the Assn of Rifle and Pistol clubs of NJ. They will be in a position to give you a good answer. I am a retired NJ leo and I am not sure about this one. I also work in a gun shop, I will ask the owner who has been in business for over 30 years.
