Another vote for H414 here. Shot 1/2 inch 100 yd. groups in my Remmy 700 cdl using Nosler 95 gr. Combined Technology boat tail Silver Tips.

MYG30

My friend I would be loading for, HER name is April and she wouldn't really be able to come over and use my press. But she will be helping reload while I'm at her house.

Just caught the part about the primers and the fact you will be hunting in very cold weather. The Federal 210M primer will be fine as have done very well in the few tests results I have read but you may want to do your load workup with either H4350 or H4895 . These are a very user friendly powders insofar as being insensitive to cold and used by many for their heavier deer hunting loads . These are 2 of Hodgdons " extreme " series powders for the very reason you mentioned. Nice to see you have a lady friend to enjoy both loading and hunting with . Wish more were like that.

Well, I don't shoot .243, but I DO shoot Rem 6mm (virtually the same beast in all ways that would matter to you. H380 is unrivaled--it's the only powder that rifle gets fed. I use it for 1000-meter shooting mainly with 90gr Sierra FMJBT's, but it fires the Speer 105's for hunting at 1/2 MOA all day long on H380 also.

What primers are you guys using with your reloads? I have a few Federal LR match and magnum match on hand. Because the case is nice and large and this will be a hunting round in the cold North east, magnum primer be safe? I think I will make a Ladder test with IMR4064, Varget, maybe CFE223, and RL22. I have all these powders on hand.

I forgot to mention in the original post, that I will be using 100gr SGK bullets.

I won't use anything other than IMR-4064 for .243. I've had stellar success with it in years past

Plus one for Mike-
38 gns
87 V-max
Unreal accuracy at all ranges. BR-2 Primers a must

My favorite powder is IMR 4350 behind a 100 gr bullet. Velocities are slightly over 3100 fps from a 22 inch M70 FWT pre 64.
Factory loads often run about 2900 fps which takes it down in effectiveness a lot.
My loads exceed handbook loads by 2-3 grains so I won't post them. However, when the .243 WCF first came out the writers used 45 gr of 4350.

I have not found any pressure problems. I have worked up loads with 4350 in my rifle that exceeded 3200 fps with 100 gr bullets. I know pressures are high, but do not get hard bolt lift or problems with primers showing too high.
My rifle is a "fast" rifle, and I have never found another that can reach such velocities. I had a friend who had a Sako, and he had difficulty getting over 3000 fps from his rifle.

In my view any powder faster than 4350 can not get the velocities I want in a .243.

I tried H 4831, but the case would not hold enough. Norma 204 is the same burning rate as 4350, and is more dense.
I have not used any of the newest powders, but if you stay with a burning rate of 4350 or slightly slower, if the case will hold it, performance will be fine.

Jerry

I'm really sold on RL17. I load for accuracy first and the resulting velocity is what it will be. If I can figure out how to post a pic of my .23 group I will. My pet load for my Howa with an 85gr Speer BTSP is 42.7 gr. it's a full grain under max, very little brass. Comes off with the trims so that tells me I'm not getting excessive pressure. Velocity is screaming at 3281. My 1:10 barrel shoots 100gr ok, but not as accurately. It's about 1 MOA. My pet load for that round is 40.5 gr of H4831. Velocity is a little slow at 2847. But bullet holds together nicely and does a good number on both hogs and deer. Nice thing is the 100yd POI for this gun is only 1" below the 85 and centerline is dead on. Going to test a few loads with IMR 4064 to see if I can tighten up the group a tad.

In my old Savage, I had good results with Reloader-22 , Remington 9 1/2 primer and the Sierra 100 gn bullet.

My two favorite loads for .243 are 43.5 gr. of H4350, CCI 200 primer in Winchester brass with 90 gr. Nosler Accubond and 42.0 gr. of H100V, WLR primer, Winchester brass with 100 gr. Nosler Partition. Accuracy is very good out of my Browning X-bolt, both under an inch 4-shot group @ 100 yards, and both are more than enough to drop a decent sized deer.
