I'd suggest you take a look at the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight 1x 25mm 3 MOA Dot with Integral Weaver-Style Mount Matte.
You can google to find best prices and places that sell it. Only around $90 or so. |

Not trying to be a smart ass here, but if 50 yards will be your target distance iron sights would be just fine even for someone like me with poor vision. On the other hand "Primary Arms" sells some budget priced dot type scopes that appear to be popular.

I bought a leapers from midwayusa for 80. the red/green are nice when you need to pick a good contrast.

For just $40-50 more there is the Vortex Strikefire. It will give you the ability to switch back and forth between green and red dot. They get good reviews.

You think YOU have questions about Red and Green dot scopes? I have a friend who's color blind and can't tell the difference.
I know, my post didn't offer even the tiniest bit of benefit to the thread. Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot Scope for AR15 SF-BR-AR15
Would both units fit on my Ruger mini 14 tactical?

They are both good but IMO the vortex is better how ever if I had a mini 14 tac I would get the bushnell . Only cus I think the bigger vortex would Be a little bulky up front and at times block your view . I think it would look funny mounted as far forward as it looks it would have to be . I have seen red dot's mounted up on the hand gaurd but the tend to be smaller .

OK it looks like the Bushnell red dot comes with the Built in mount for Weaver-style rail , and the Ruger mini 14 stock comes with One seven-inch and two two-inch Picatinny rails .
Now, what does this mean to you? Boiled down, it means that accessories designed for a Weaver system will, in most cases, fit on a “Picatinny” system. The reverse, however, is probably not the case. Due to the larger recoil groove, “Picatinny” accessories will not fit a Weaver system. There are, of course, exceptions to every rule, but for a good rule-of-thumb, “Picatinny” won’t fit Weaver, but Weaver will fit “Picatinny So yes it should work on the mini . You can always call Ruger or talk with the sales guy who is selling you the gun
