Help...Hornady XTP 9mm bullet data

Just got enough handloading stuff in to actually reload.

That is a good thing.

Bad thing......The only bullets I could find locally were Hornady XTP brand. They are 9mm/124 JHP's. I just assumed there would be load data in my Lyman manual, but this bullet is not listed. I also looked online....no dice. Just my luck....was hoping to assemble/learn this Lee press, and carefully have at least one of my first reloaded shells to shoot before Monday.

Anyone here know were this data is located? I need to know OAL and min/max charge.

Is this Hornady data only available for Hornady books? Excuse my ignorance....this is my very first experience reloading.

What powder?

Also you can use any published data for any 124/125 grain jacketed bullet. Some people seek out specific recipes for bullets, primers and brands of brass but there is no safety hazards for using bullets/brass/primers as generic components. Just do a load work up, which should be done anyway.

My accurate manual recommends an OAL of 1.06" for the 124 XTP in 9mm but most people load them longer than that and have no problems.

Forgot that I had factory shells (duh) so I checked the OAL and these are consistantly 1.065"......matches your listed OAL. Guess I'm good there.

My powder? W231. You're saying any 124gr is good for a powder cross reference? Make sense....I guess the powder doesn't care if it pushes 124 grs. of JHP or FMJ.

It is bad because, without the proper load data, these can't be sent down range......unless is use a slingshot.

Finding data for a 124gr lead core, copper jacket in 9mm Luger should be very easy.

I have Hornady's data. For the 124gr XTP in 9mm Luger they are using a COL of 1.060" in Hornady brass and WSP primers. Starting and maximum charges for the powders they list are as follows:

Unique: 4.0 - 5.0
Herco: 4.0 - 4.8
VV N350: 4.4 - 5.2
Power Pistol: 4.3 -5.7
WAP/Silhouette: 4.2 -5.8
SR 4756: 4.1 - 5.5
HS-6: 5.1 - 5.9
Blue Dot: 4.8 - 6.6
540: 5.2 - 6.1
HS-7: 5.6 - 6.4
AA#7: 6.2 - 7.9

I use 4.6gn of HP38 ( all so 231 ) I am not in my reloading room to say what my Case Over All Lenght is.I found that this load works great in my pistol.

Thanks for the additional info. Right now I'm stuck with a seating die problem (another thread) and I can't even make it to filling a shell yet.
