Why no Rem 700 308 in walnut?

Well? Am I the only one in the world that really, really would like to have a bdl or cdl in 308? What's up Remington?

I believe they made a limited run of them a couple of years back, but I could be wrong.

Try looking for a model 7 CDL. If all else fails you can pick up a .243 BDL and rebarrel. It is expensive to do it that way, but it might be your only option if you have to have a .308.

^ like he said, they make the model 7 in a 308 CDL package that is a very sharp looking, in my opinion sharper looking that the 700

Yeah, I've looked at the model 7, just can't for the life of me figure why I cant get a 700 in blue/walnut in 308. I mean do any of y'all think they sell more 300 RUM's than they would 308s in the bdl?

Reason I'm looking is I've got a couple of semi auto 308s and want a bolt rifle in 308 to complement them. Got lots of ammo, dies, etc. really want a classic looking bolt action. I love the rem 700 hence my search. I've been hunting with 700s all my life and just can't bring myself to look at anything else.

So, anyone have any experience with the model 7? I know the action is supposedly a shortened 700 action, I just don't know much about them.

There based of the M600/660 and XP action. They are basically the same as a model 700 just around a 1/2" shorter in lenght. There pretty light, and make a nice compact handy hunting rifle.

If your interested I know where there is a reasonable M660 in .308 from an online retailer. It comes with an old German Hensoldt Wetzlar Duralyt 6X with heavy post and crosshair reticle scope. I'll send you a PM with the details.

I've only owned one Model 7 and I owned Rem X-P R which is same action as current Model 7. My 221 is build on older X-P action and I had bolt handle changed out to 700 style it's hard to keep up with Rem at times on those actions.

Only reason I got Model 7 it was out of the custom shop chamber for the 7BR in a repeater action.

Model 7 is pretty light and real pencil type barrel and if you like that type rifle be a good one to get. If you like the BDL not sure you like the Model 7. I like synthetic stocks but my 35 Whelen AI on Rem action is in a BDL that I got new on another change out rifle.

I even had to go and look at there website. I was surprised to see that they dont offer it in the bdl.

Not offering it in the BDL is no surprise. The CDL was meant to replace the BDL which was dropped entirely for several years. They brought the BDL back, but in very limited production runs and in very limited chamberings.

I see no reason not to offer the 308 in CDL, but companies make what is selling. And they do offer it in the model 7 with a walnut stock. I guess most people who buy a 308 either want it in a smaller lighter package or in a tactical rifle. In a way that does make sense. If I were buying a full size and weight rifle I'd just as soon get a 30-06 and would prefer a 308 in a more compact rifle.

Yeah I know I could go Winchester, heck the Browning xbolts are pretty fine too, for some reason I'm just obsessed with a blue/walnut 700. I even tried to figure out getting one of the models with a synthetic stock and putting it in a walnut stock but none of the barrels are blued! And I would have no problem with going 30/06, that just kind of defeats my purpose. Man, you can get anything in 30/06!

Love my Remington 700 AAC-SD .308, if I decide I want a hunting .308 I will go with a basic Savage like a Model 10 G/XP .308 ... (which is great looking for $500 bucks to begin with).

If I wanted to go super duper beautiful I'd go Browning A-Bolt ...that is just beautiful IMHO.

Remington no longer shows the BDL in 223 either. I like a 24" barrel, not shorter.

Found one in my local classifieds. Mint early 80s bdl in 308. This rifle is beautiful. I'll try and post some pics tonight or tomorrow. I am hopped up! Paid $650.

I've got a blue/walnut Remington 700 ADL in .308 that I picked up out of a pawn shop rack two years ago. I paid $400.00 for it out the door, and it came with a Leupold scope mounted.



I shoot it every chance I get, even if it is a single shot to verify zero. Often if the gandkids want to shoot, I'll take this rifle along for the ride, and after the kids are though shooting I'll put one shot through it. I'll hit what I'm aiming at and call it good.

I've thought about getting a BDL kit from Brownells and installing it, but for my purposes, the ADL works just fine.

Good looking rifle, misterE. Do you know when it was made? Mine was assembled in August, 1983. Wisner's has a page that explains Remington date codes and you can see that page at the LINKY.
