Armi san marco from 1973?xx7

Hey Guys, I had a quick question about asm. Is it true these older ones from the 70s are better quality than there recent ones? Picked one up last year for 75$(never fired), I plan on shooting it soon but dont want to take off my hand.

ASM was bought out by AWA I believe. ASM never had a good reputation. All internal parts were soft steel including the hammer. For 75.00 bucks shoot it and replace the internal parts as they go bad. It won't blow up in your hand it'll just wear out internal parts fast.

You also might want to check the size of the cylinder to the size of the throat. One of the Cap and Balls I have is an ASM and the cylinder is smaller then the throat. This does not make for the best accuracy.

I don't know if what I am saying is clear or not so I will give an example. If you seat a ball in the cylinder that is size .445 and the throat is .460 with the bore being .453, actual size of my ASM 1858 Remington cap& ball, the ball will not fully fill the bore making for a lot of blow by and poor accuracy. Believe me I know.

To fix the problem I bought a new Pietta barrel that has a throat of .446 and a bore of .441. I moved recently and my lathe isn't wired yet but when it is I will put the Pietta barrel on the ASM. They have the same thread size and pitch.

Thanks guys, just making sure it wasnt going to pop in my hand. It will be mostly a once in a while shooter, I have an uberti that i plan on using more often. I will check my throat and cylinder size before I take her out. If its off that much Ill dump it to a tinker, I hate having guns around that wont run right.

Ill let you know what she does

I have had real good luck with ASM revolvers.

Nothing wrong with nor they ever have a bad reputaion compared to anyone else. As a matter of fact their quality equated to Uberti. Cimarron carried them for quite a spell. They also made repro transition OpenTops in .38 Colt and .45 Long Colt also in 1872 Open Top and Richards.
You get good ones and some that need more work than others sooner sometimes. ASM are pretty smooth Revs.

I know Lee3370 has had a good amount of them and had no complaints.
I think I'm gonna find me one... Lee an ASM 58' Rem or 1860 Colt Army?

I have 3 ASM conversions in 38 spl. 2 1851's and an 1861. I love all of them. They make me feel like Good, Bad, and Ugly.

I have an 1860 ASM that looks like it was a kit gun. It is rough around the edges but has a nice action and everything locks up straight. The bore and chambers are shiny with no rust or pits. It is in the list that I posted on voy. It is number 021. $135.00
