Most powerful Glock (G21 in 40 Super?)

I was looking at the Glock 20 to be a "magnum" load, LARGE animal, take on hikes where bigfoot may jump out and attack, gun.

I want the most powerful glock possible. The 10mm is good, but ballistics on the .40 super match the 10mm Magnum, which is needless to say better than the 10mm.

data mostly from Double tap website
less than 10mm= all other stock glock cartridges
10mm 180gr @1250fps=624ft.lbs
9x25 115gr @1800fps=827ft.lbs
10mm mag 220gr @1335fps=871ft.lbs (not available in Glock, but worth noting)
.40 Super 135gr @1800fps=971ft.lbs
.44 Mag 240gr @1500fps=1200ft.lbs (HIGH PRESSURE 44 Mag to compare)

So, what do you all think. Is this "the setup" for a Glock when you want maximum power?

. But seriously I think a Glock 20 in 10mm would be plenty suffeceint for anything you come across in the woods unless your in like Alaska! Also are you reloading your own ammo, or know where to get the goods on the .40 super? I have trouble getting ammo for my regular 40 S&W

I suppose if that were the goal, yes, unless you can get someone to make a custom barrel in 10mm mag.

Personally, I'm ok with 357sig and 10mm.

10mm Mag Glock? That'd be awesome. But I think the bullets wouldn't fit in the mag, and the slide wouldn't feed the longer round.

That's true.... at around a 1/3 inch longer than the 10mm it might be a teeny problem.... still, if money were no object, someone could do it.

I've loaded and fired over 3000 .40 Supers through one of my G21s. Very accurate round, but won't feed reliably from 13-rd. Glock mags; must use the 10-rd. Klintonista mags for reliable feeding.

No factory support; ammo availability nil.

You can load 10mm almost as hot as .40 Super, if you use an aftermarket barrel. I'd highly recommend the theaded, compensated, KKM barrel. (Or a Lonewolf 6" G20 barrel.)

Even though you have more ME, a 135 gr. bullet seems to me to be too light in a .40 load to be effective on large critters.

I would stick with the Glock 20 with 180 gr. or higher loads.

If it really matters (handguns are all relatively weak) at least get the facts right. DT lists their JHP 180g 10mm at 1300 fps from a G20's 4.6" barrel. You quoted the velocity for their FMJ "match" load.

Confirmed.

I used to have a G21 that I ran .400 Corbon thru. Almost identical cartridge with the bottleneck design. Never worked right with 13rd mags.

It did work okay with 10rd mags though, because it tended to prohibit doublestack binding.

I have no idea why the .357sig works in Glocks designed for .40 but the .400 or .40super don't work in Glocks designed for .45acp.

But, I never trusted it well enough to actually carry for defense.

If you want something to stop BigFoot, then you either need a magnum revolver or a long gun. Autopistols just aren't designed for large game hunting (with rare and expensive exceptions).

I'd say for reliability's sake, skip the hotrodded G21 and get either a G20 or (preferably) G29. The 29 is a smaller package, and if 10 rounds of 10mm won't do the trick against a charging BigFoot then 15 wouldn't help any more.

azred: I believe the nosediving common to the .400 Cor-Bon and .40 Super in doublestack mags, but not in .357 Sigs has to do with the short, fat profile of the .45's, relative to the .357s.
