Removing finger grooves on a Glock gen 3

Has anyone removed the finger grooves from a 3rd gen Glock? I'm thinking seriously about doing this and was wondering if anyone has done this themselves...hpg

Finger groves

you may want to check on that on the Glock forum, here's the link
http://www.glocktalk.com/
Someone there may have done that or can advise on it. good luck and just curious as to why do you want to do this?

Uh1-D,

I'm not aware of any gunshops that will let you take a NIB Glock or any other gun out and test it before purchasing it.....hpg

Just grind them off, no problems there. Then add skateboard tape or use a cheap low watt soldering iron and a blunt tip to stipple the grip.

HSMITH,

That's an idea, I'm not dead set,100% going to do this. I'm kinda kicking around the idea.

I had even tought about taking a dremel and cutting grooves after I sanded it to match up the factory grooves. Or maybe just leave it smooth........hpg

Once you have sanded it to 400 grit, 0000 steel wool will polish it nicely.

hpg, once you get the finger grooves off there isn't a lot of thickness left to work with. Grinding to make new finger grooves won't work. If you want new finger grooves you can build the grip up with accraglass from Brownells or something similar.

The easy and fast method is to stipple it with a soldering iron, it makes and extremely good gripping surface and is extremely durable. If you are patient and carefull it can also be really nice looking.

The downside is you might have a harder time selling the gun if you ever wanted to sell it, but having it work right for me is more important than resale value especially with something as utilitarian as a Glock.

Okay here's an update, I have filed and sanded some of the sharpness off the edge of the finger grooves (made them more rounded) and it does not bite nealy as bad as it used to......hpg

Many gun shops have ranges....

....and they usually have a representative sample of what they sell, that you can rent...try before you buy...

I live 70 miles from any Major City, there is no gun shop to rent anything from, hell there isn't even a gun shop where I live. Why is it people who live in or near big cities assume everybody else does as well? hpg

Too late now, but selling it and buying an older glock might have been a better solution.

Gun shows are your friend. You can usually take a Saturday and go shake hands with a bunch of pistols and maybe take one home that you like.

Of course, I understand the tinkering drive.....

hpg, Some people just love to argue Do with it what you please. My Brother was kicking arround the same idea. He had a nice red mark on his middle finger, after a 100 rounds, just not enough room under the trigger gaurd.

If you want to add finger grooves back, install a Hogue Handall to your personal fit, then cover the Handall with Agrip.

Even better, just keep your eyes open for a used 1st generation and get one without the grooves.
Used you can sometimes find them for around 350 or somewhere in that ballpark.
