garand loads

The best powder for the M1 is probably !MR4895 but there are other loads suitable that will not over-pressure the gas piston/oprod.

The attached is a scan from NovDec '95 American Rifleman article on 30-06 Service Loads.

marks655:

This is good info. In addition, my Accurate Arms manual has a special section for .30-06 NRA High Power loads, which are all compatible with the Garand gas system. I am guessing that other powder manufacturers include similar data in their reloading manuals as well.

P.S. - I still haven't found a reason to change from H4895.

I agree it's hard to beat for several rifles I shoot.

My only reason was that I stopped using W748 on my .223 loads and I had 4 lbs. of it left over. So I used it for 'service loads' for a garand. For 'match' loads I use 47gr IMR4895.
