Ruger SP101 (2.25") and LCR Pic Comparison

Does anyone have any picture comparisons of a 2.25" SP101 and a LCR?

Thanks

Someone on here did a nice picture comparison chart on a lot of various CCW guns. If you search, you might be able to find that thread. It's been fairly recent so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Los seems to specialize in pocket gun comparos, and the SP is NOT a pocket gun.

The two are roughly the same profile, but the SP may be TWICE the weight.

Also Ruger site should have their dimensions.

I have both. These are good guns but there is NO comparison.

I was snub .38 shopping and handled the SP101 along side the LCR. While I appreciated the substantial build quality of the SP101, pocket carry left me feeling lopsided.

I was looking specifically for a .38 as shooting .357 out of a snub nose does not interest me in the least. The weight, feel, and price led me to go with the .38 LCR...which is in my pocket as I type

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Ruger guy, and I love the .357 platform. My all time favorite gun is my .357 Blackhawk. I still want to get a 3" SP101 in the near future to fill the gap between my LCR and my Blackhawk. Robust little tanks that they are.

But for the day to day, I adore my LCR.

los, those charts are amazing! Thank you for all of them. Frankly, I'd love to see all of them put into one thread and stickied as the "General Pocket Pistol Size Comparison Thread." That would be a great resource.

THANKS, Spats.

I'm seriously considering establishing a secured website where all my comparison charts can be accessed. Biggest hurdle would be the cost of the monthly bandwidth, which will most likely increase as I continue to add charts.

I'm also looking into a program that will interact with the user to automatically create a custom comparison chart with user's choice of handguns.

Just knocking ideas around. I'll keep everyone posted.

Well, allow me to demonstrate nerdiness at its finest. I found a website a few years ago that will allow you to drag and drop various spaceships from science fiction around so that you can compare their relative sizes. Perhaps this guy could be of some help: http://www.merzo.net/

Really a LCR is about the same as any snubnose revolver, like S&W..

So comparing the LCR and SP101, its almost the same... Just weight by 12oz.

SP 101 lenght 7.00" LCR lenght 6.38

max width in cylinder LCR 1.283 SP 101 1.349

We should really have a pinned and locked thread for all of los' comparison charts. C'mon staff make this happen!

I was seriously considering an LCR, either in .38 or .357, and may yet get one at some point. However, handling and examining them on numerous occasions, I finally concluded that a .357 LCR was not enough of a "gain" over the SP101s I already have and an LCR .38 Special was not enough of a "gain" over the excellent bobbed hammer Model 37 Airweights I already have. I do like them, though.

Tennjed, its all about what you want it for. If you search the forums people carry a Ruger SP101 IWB and they like it. The LCR is great for pocket carry. The down side to a snubnose is that you can not shoot it all day long, it starts to hurt. The SP101 is great for a range gun and CCW.

'Most' people who buy a snub are not interested in shooting it all day long. That's not the usual purpose.

I carry the 2 1/4" DAO SP101 in a Mika pocket holster in the right front pocket of Levi jeans all day and no, I don't list to the right...In my experiece of over 4 years of daily carry, the statement that the SP101 is not a pocket gun is a myth.

I would like to see a Ruger LCR vs SW 642 Airweight comparison chart since they are intense competitors.

Wow, funny how things work out. I was about to post pics of my sp101 and LCR side by side for the OP. Then I noticed the OP was me from a 1 1/2 years ago. Yeah I ended up with both

Anyway Tennjed if you are still intersted in seeing these 2 side by side let me know
