Blood and Oil AR at 7 minutes Episode 1

This is available on US netflix. At the 7 minute mark some rebel/terrorist/freedom fighter/whatevers attack an oil something or another. The lead guy in the lead boat is carrying what looks like an AR with some sort of bulky patriotic shell deflector. I haven't seen one like it before. I was thinking it might be an attempt at a SAW mock-up, but it I don't think so. Is it just something a director slapped on there? Is it an actual product?

You think they reload in Africa and they don't want the brass flying out of the boat?
