Any one loading 45 +p using W231 powder? If so, what are your loads and what velocities are you getting? I load Rainier 200gr hp over 6.2 to 6.5 grs W231 in Starline +p brass. I get 950-972fps. Any other loaders using W231 in this context? Thanks, Walt

230 FMJ with 6.5 Unique for about 850 fps or 6.3 of H. Universal for about 840.

230 Lead RN with 5.5 of 231 for 820. I use 5.3 for about 800. Pleasant to shoot but still does in the steel plates.

None of these are super hot loads, but you'll know you're shooting a "real" .45.

I tried a few W231 loads before I moved up to slower powders to limit the pressure peak strain on the pistol. My favorite +p powders are AA#5 and AA#7. HS6 and HS7 are also supposed to be good. Ramshot Enforcer and Alliant Power Pistol are also worthy candidates.

BTW, don't go over 7.0 grains of 231 in a .45 case. The pressure peak is like 30,000 psi at that charge weight.

I just chrony'd some 230gr. Golden Sabers @1220+ fps. 13.9gr. ##7, CCI lmpp. Oh, be sure and use .45 Super brass!

Suggest correct 45ACP +P powder as Alliant Power Pistol (they even offer data).

W231 is tooooo fast. Danger.

(I was once testing 230g/W231/45ACP +P and as I added powder velocity DID NOT change. Know what that means? LOL...)

I have used Unique and 2400(for 250grn and up) with very good results. Both give very good accuracy out of any of my S&W revos but the M25-2 is the pickest of the group. The
newer M625 will soot ANYTHING in on hole out to 35 to 40 yards.....dewey

Been shooting 12 g. of AA#7 in front of 230g. golden Sabres in my P90. Estimated velocity at 1000 fps. Just got my Chrony, based on post of 13.9 g. at 1200 fps looking forward to chronographing my load. Very accurate using 45 Super brass and upgraded recoil/firing pin springs...
