New Sig M11-A1 vs old school W German P228
http://sigsauer.com/m11-a1/
which would you pick if you had a choice of West German folded carbon steel p228 vs stainless steel, short reset, phosphate coated m11-a1? |

The current M11 has a 2 lb lighter DA trigger pull, has a 2 rd. higher capacity comes with night sights and weighs roughly 3 oz more (empty) than the original P228.
Everything else, other than finishes, is pretty much the same... or am I missing something? Cheers, C

I'm still surprised that a supposed military handgun isn't going to have a rail on it

the type of extractor is still undetermined. I don't understand the mk25 226 is supposedly the same as issued which has rails... what is this? Is m11 A1 a new designation, or military designation at all?

if this is a true designation....then why no rails like the mk25? if there's no such designation then the "-A1" might be subtle marketing to say that well this is as close to M11 as we are gonna get but we cant label it "M11". they had to forego the rails to make it like the original 228, but this is almost like a early rail less p229 with long serrations
either way I think this is gonna sell well for sig |

The carbon folded P228 always balanced better than the P229. I always thought my P229 was a little top heavy.

then why no rails like the mk25
The personnel who carry/carried M11's wouldn't need rails. Pilots, CID, etc. At least that's the way Sig will market it. |

.Hey if it floats your boat, go for it. Me, I'd rather buy a P228 and use all the money I saved to buy a case of 9mm ammo. Heck, maybe even two.

The M11-A1 designation is a made up Sig marketing tool. Cohen is running the playbook to perfection. It is not a M11 or P228 it is not a P229. This is a frankengun. Take some parts you have lying around and slap them together. Put an old school rollmark a bogus UID label and laser engrave the top and poof you have a new gun to market....
This does not make it a bad gun. It is a good gun. It is a P229 without a rail with a rounded trigger guard, phosphate internals, which IMHO is meaningless because when was the last time you swam in the ocean with your Sig , night sights and a SRT trigger. Again not a bad configuration but not a P228 not a M11 and the M11-A1 only existing in the mind of Sig marketing. These things are selling for $879+ transfer + shipping give or take... there is no way I personally would buy one. If I want a P229 I would buy a P229. If I want a M11 I would buy a P228. There are CPOs out there for $600 + transfer + shipping. You can be OTD for under $650 and that is without finding a deal IMHO. If I wanted a non-rail P229 the used market is full of them in the $500 to $550 range. For me the P228 is Sig perfection so I am biased. ![]()

The 228 is slimmer/sleaker and has a better balanced feel to it then the chunky P229.

I'm going to go ahead and be a dork and fall for the marketing. I actually REALLY want this gun. I love the capacity, standard night sights, and I love the look of it.
Please don't judge me too harshly. I know it's marketing, but I will almost certainly own this pistol, unless there are new-in-box 228s to be found at non-insane prices.

I don't know why I always forget about the excellent Mec-Gar hi-caps.
Seriously, if anyone knows where to get a decently priced NIB or LNIB 228, let me know. It's my favorite Sig ever, and the whole reason I was excited for the M11-A1 was that I'd have the chance to get something similar. Edit: Oof, just saw Sig factory CPO 228s for $600 on gunbroker. My wallet is screaming at me.

Yea buddy. Snag it up. One day they will finally disappear or at the least the price will go up. Until then I find it hard to rationalize getting a new SIG with all the awesome used ones out there.

For just under $800.00 you get a brand new gun, WITH Night sights (most CPO's dont have night sights so add $120 for the Triji's to your $600.00 CPO), WITH SRT. Basically this is the Mk25 in a smaller package with the SRT. I think I will pick up one, it does everything a P229 Enhanced Elite or Elite Dark Does(minus the adjustable sights) for a cheaper price. Hard to argue with that.

I bet you will love it. Looks like a great SIG pistol at a decent price. I have a P228 and a couple P229s and I love them all. |
