Identify Date of Manufacture: Savage model 187N
Bought a Savage (Springfield) Model 187N .22 Semi-auto, trying to ascertain it's date of manufacture. Can anyone help? Where do I look for any date codes or markings that might help?

187N is one of the later models of 187's. Most likely made in the early to mid 60's so no serial number and no date of manufacture. You might thru diligent searching find when the N was first used and discontinued and get a time frame but that's about all you're going to get on it.

Some Savage firearms, made between 1949-70 IIRC, are date coded.
Savage date codes have no relationship to the firearm's serial number, if any. Look for a circled letter, stamped into the bottom on the barrel, just ahead of the action. . |
