thinking of trading ar15

ok have been kinda thinking about this today and wanted some input. got a sig m400 flat top its got the prismatic scope on it 6 30 mags and about 700 rds of ammo mostly tula but some brass. what im thinking of in trade is a decent garand dont have to look great but needs to be a good shooter and a decent 1911 in 45acp maybe a little ammo for both say 50 rds each. does that seem out of line in todays market is it too much or should i maybe ask for some cash also or maybe some other cheap gun thrown in. just trying to get some feed back. the m400 only has about 90 rds down the tube. bought it the day before thanksgiving and honestly got other guns i enjoy more and have been wanting a garand and 1911

You could go to cmp and buy the Garand for about $550 I believe for a "rack grade". The AR right now is worth much more than that.

My opinion - keep the SIG M400 and buy a Service Grade Garand from the CMP for $625. Get the 1911 later.

Right now, the M400 and all that ammo (even Tula) is gonna be worth a whole lot more than a Garand. But, who knows in 6 months if you'll be able to get another AR if you change your mind? Likewise, the CMP has stated that they have about 2 years worth of mail-order Garands left. After that, expect used Garand prices to rise considerably.

On the other hand, it's a good chance you'll be able to find nice 1911s for a long time.

Field grade, actually. Rack grades are even less, but pretty rough. The Service grade is your best bang for the buck.

I'd take three Garands over an AR any day. That being said I'll keep my AR...and my 1945 Garand.

yeah ive contacted cmp 3 wks ago asking if my kansas hunters education course back in the 70s was enough of a qualifer to buy there guns and have not heard back. dont think i would be out of line asking for a good field grade garand, and a decent to nice 1911 would be out of line. guessing the garand bout 700 nice used 1911 5-600 say 50 rds or so of each caliber, maybe some money not sure

Good luck finding a nice used Garand for $700. Even junkers around here go for close to $1000.

In my opinion, the CMP is the ONLY way to go to get a nice, reasonably-priced Garand.
